umm.... poodles are actually big dogs… its the miniature poodle that's small… Either way.. i'd choose a german shepard over a poodle… but i think a regular poodle has a better chance then the miniature… 05/26/2008 20:38

I grew up with large dogs, mutt's.german shepherds. collies,etc When I was 21 and got a place of my own the place I lived it would only allow small dogs so i found a poodle which I used to hate. best breed, they love to please their master, no dog hair, great watch dog, very protective of master and mine does not bark a lot like people say Also I don't get their hair done all queer, just fluffy. Im 44 now and I have had standards and toy I love them all. Awesome dogs. But all dogs can be awesome they are the only one who will love you unconditionally. 03/14/2008 10:20

I think that people just go by the stereotype. Not all poodles are annoying little yappers. Standards are awesome family dogs. We had one (an apricot, dominant male) when I was a baby (he was a puppy at the same time). He was a very loyal dog, and was very protective of 'his kids'. 03/13/2008 15:00

	I have had poodle and I had a shepherd. My shepherd was the most loyal, most loving , most MY dog I have ever had in a lifetime of dog owning. Tough call, but I stick with my Poodle. Both are smart and loyal. But the poodle is a definite people dog, and mine has a joker personality I wouldn't trade for anything. Smart, loyal, and funny! the ultimate combination! I say poodles! 03/13/2008 12:18

If you want a dog that will protect you and your family it would have to be a German Shepherd. They are loving, loyal, obedient and fearless. In January our long haired German Shepherd passed away. He was my companion for over 10 1/2 years. When I decide to adopt a new dog it will be a Shepherd. He has sold me on the breed. 02/21/2008 12:50

	Although I Love German Shepherds, Standard Poodles would be my preference over a German Shepherd. Poodles are smart, obedient and can be attractive. I have a cockapoo now, and now I want a standard poodle as well. I see various owners of standard poodles, and they are the most obedient as well as cockapoos. 	I have to agree that cockapoos are great dogs- you mix any number of breeds with the poodle for a nice dog. My mom has a golden doodle who is a big clown and such a sweetie! Obediant?
