I have had experience with both standard poodles and standard dachshunds. The poodles are very obedient and loving, great athletic dogs. The dachshunds are loving and independant. The dachsunds always make their own minds up about nearly everything, and they are VERY smart. The dachshunds are more difficult and I think a lot more fun.........more like a friend than a pet

You gotta be kidding! That is no contest
the poodle is the winner. Smart, cute, loyal and with a sense of humor
tough to top that!

I have never owned a dachshund. I have had several poodles over the years. All of mine were female but one and most were desendants. ( I raised them for awhile, but I could not part with them, nuts, I know) I found my females intuitive about me and their siblings. You had to be there. They seem to bark at inanimate objects, which is different from other dogs. They all bark at plastic bags on bushes. Could be the trash disgusts them. I have the comfort and pleasure of having the spirit of one that passed about 4 years ago still with me. My Jackie Dog is still very much with me. Sharon. Good luck Dachshunds.

We have a dachshund and he is the greatest! He's not yappy like a poodle. Also he doesn't bite at people when they come in. He is now approaching 12yrs and is doing great! We are his pets! He knows he owns us! We love him so much!

I've had several mini doxies over the years and they are adorable! My red short hair, Brandi, is the love of my life. No matter how bad your day is they're there for you with all the love you can handle....great cuddlers too!

Mini doxies are great dogs, especially if you want a low maintenance pet. They shed very little, don't bark much, and are happy just to be near their owners (usually cuddled on the sofa). One thing you should consider is that many of them are frightened by small children who run to pet the "wiener" dog. Frightened Doxies often will snap at small children, sometimes going for the face.

I have 2 mini dachshunds - a black (8lbs) and red (10lbs) and they are the most adorable, smart, silly, playful dogs I have ever seen. I think they are a dog you have to own to love - I never wanted a dachshund until we got our first pup and I absolutely fell in love with the breed. They are wonderful.
